Cookity is built to need as little of your information as possible. Accounts are optional, there are no ads, and we don't sell your data. Here's exactly what that means.
The short version
- You can use Cookity with no account at all — full deals, dinners, and a shopping list.
- If you choose to sign in, we store only your email address — never a password (sign-in is a one-time emailed code) and never your name.
- Your region, followed stores, and preferences are stored on your device (and, if you sign in, synced to your account so they follow you across devices).
- Your shopping list is saved on our server under a random code (or your account, if you sign in).
- We don't run third-party advertising trackers, and we don't sell or rent any data.
What we store on your device
Cookity uses your browser's local storage to remember your choices so the app works the way you left it: your selected region, the stores you follow, your display preferences, and a randomly generated “family code” that links you to a shared shopping list. This stays in your browser and you can clear it any time by clearing site data for Cookity.
What we store on our servers
When you add items to a shopping list, those items are saved in our database so they can sync across devices that use the same family code. A list is keyed only to that anonymous code — it contains no name, email, login, or device identifier. Anyone who knows or guesses a family code can view and edit that list, so treat your code like a shared password and don't post it publicly.
If you create an account (optional)
Accounts are optional and exist only to sync your setup across devices. If you sign in, we store your email address and your saved preferences (region, followed stores, household size, diet filters) tied to that account. Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email — we never store a password. Authentication is handled by our provider, Clerk. You can delete your account at any time, which removes this data.
Deal data & AI suggestions
Sale prices come from publicly available weekly store circulars and third-party data sources (such as Flipp). Meal ideas and recipes are generated by an AI model from the items currently on sale. We send the on-sale item list — not your personal information — to generate them.
Service providers
We use reputable infrastructure providers to host the app and store list data (for example, Vercel for hosting and Neon for the database). These providers process data on our behalf to run the service and may log standard technical information such as IP address and request logs for security and reliability.
Cookies & tracking
We use only essential browser storage to make the app function. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Children
Cookity isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
You can remove everything stored on your device by clearing site data in your browser. To have a server-side shopping list deleted, clear the list in the app or contact us with your family code.
Changes
We may update this policy as Cookity grows. We'll revise the “last updated” date above when we do.
